ADVOCACY

CLASS adopted the following policy statement in 2019

AGING IN THE COMMUNITY

CLASS invites individuals, organizations, businesses, faith communities and governments to partner in creating age friendly communities; working together to address the opportunities and challenges of an aging population.  CLASS supports the public and private creation and coordination of opportunities for health, well-being, social inclusion, participation and security. We advocate for structures and services to be accessible to and inclusive of seniors with varying needs, interests and capacities. We raise up seniors to be their own voice and participate in these discussions, public and private.

TRANSPORTATION

All people need to have access to affordable transportation. CLASS supports public and private participation in providing a variety of affordable and accessible transportation options for seniors and caregivers. We advocate for the supports needed for aging in community. We raise up seniors to be their own voice and participate in these discussions, public and private.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING

All people need to have housing they can afford. CLASS supports public and private participation in providing and maintaining housing affordability for seniors. We advocate for the supports needed for aging in community including a range of affordable housing options. We raise up seniors to be their own voice and participate in these discussions, public and private.

DEMENTIA FRIENDLY

People of all capabilities are valuable and vital members of the community. CLASS supports public and private creation of Dementia Friendly Communities which:

  • Promote early diagnosis and quality care;

  • Offer memory loss services and supports;

  • Are made up of businesses with dementia-informed services and environments for customers and employee caregivers;

  • Provide dementia-aware local government services, planning and emergency responses.

We advocate for the supports needed for aging in community. We raise up seniors to be their own voice and participate in these discussions, public and private.
